March 2011 Newsletter

There is never a dull moment here in the land of Milk and Money, and that is just the way I like it.  Nearly every day we are newly connected to another parent entrepreneur who has built a life of freedom for themselves and for their children. I am truly honored to be able to list them at no charge in the largest parent-only business directory in the world. We appreciate all your amazing word of mouth and ask that you don't stop talking about us! What is even more important is that you continue to make an effort to use the directory for your every day purchases. The value of your dollars becomes priceless when you are helping a mom or dad in their dream to stay home with their children.

We have accomplished a great deal, but what excites me the most is all that we still have ahead of us!  In addition to new members, we've added new staff, new giveaway programs, new spotlights new helpful articles and blogs, and new podcast downloads. It is our pleasure to enter your email box each month and we thank you for allowing us to do so. Have a good one!

Our Milk Money no longer charges you to list your business in our directory. We are grateful to icontact for covering the organization's business overhead each month to make the free membership possible for you. To learn more about icontact, please visit their site. If you would like to learn more about our decision to cancel annual membership fees, READ MORE or listen to the first 5 minutes of Ally's explanation on This Little Parent Stayed Home.

At Our Milk Money, we don't discriminate. Moms have great stories to share, but so do the Dads. It is definitely a sign of the times when Dads from all over the world begin to step up as primary care-takers and embrace their roles as stay-at-home parents.

Sniff, Sniff

I've noticed one new thing about myself that I'm attributing to being a father.  I make a lot more noise when I stand up.  Okay wait.  Two things.  I cry at the drop of a freakin' hat now!  Growing up I was always a sentimental guy (to a fault), but short of excrutiating pain or death in the family it would take a lot to actually start the water works.  Three big exceptions:  the movies Terms of Endearment and Glory and for some reason the Happy Days episode when Fonzie goes blind.  Buckets.

Now it takes very little to get me verklempt.  I'm not talking about sobbing or rending of garments or anything.  But the least little tug at the heartstrings will get me welling up.  Movies, TV shows, even commercials.  The wireless provider ad (I'm not protecting anybody's name.  I seriously forget who the ad was for) where the guy is on a business trip...Continue reading →

How to be Home Free  - Technological Trends

Technology is the reason that so many of us are able to learn how to be the new bosses of our lives.  Once you become a stay at home parent who is juggling a new career, your time becomes the most valuable commodity you have.  You simply can't waste one moment doing a task that doesn't have some kind of pay off.  Of course, this may seem simple, but very often we work hard at creating the perfect newsletter, or blog, or radio podcast and there is no real value to it if there isn't an audience for it.  Technology can get you the audience you need as well, leaving no stone unturned in any corner of our world.  Continue reading →

How to Build Your Email Marketing List

First Of All, Why Is Your List Important?
Building lists of subscribers, prospects, and customers is one of the most important activities your business can undertake. Once built, permission-based email lists can create sales for your company for years to come.

Tip #1 For Building Your List: Networking

Whether you have an online or offline business, networking has always been an effective way to build relationships and generate sales. In most cases, people exchange business cards or pass along leads when meeting. This contact information is then used to build your database.

Quick Tip: After a networking opportunity, get in the habit of sending a quick email message (no more than 3 days later) to all of the people you spoke with. Start by recapping your conversation, and then ask each contact for permission to be add them to your email list.

Parents, what you don't need is another public motivator telling you to stand up and take action. I am convinced that you already have the motivation you need to make a change for the better. What you don't have are the tangible solutions to put your enthusiasm into action. We've just started a new 13 week series and this time we are going to bring you real hands on courses of action that will allow you to leave the traditional work force and come home!
